I wrote this review immediately after watching the OotP movie at the local IMAX last night. I posted it at Harmony Forever, but I thought, since this review was so long, I should probably also post it on LJ for posterity.

Don't mind me. Feel free to skip this, what with all the OotP reviews coming out. :)

I bring more art, Harmony-style! Of course, I must warn you that it comes with yet another lengthy discussion of the scene in canon that inspired it.

This particular sketch isn't really detailed like my previous sketches, as I was too tired to fill in the background. Plus, I wanted to focus primarily on the characters in one of my favorite OotP scenes.

On a technical note, the scanner I used wasn't big enough to capture the whole page, so I had to scan two different sections of the sketch and combine the resulting images. I hope the merge turned out ok.

Running on instinct... )

As always, the higher resolution image is in the fanart section of Harmony Forever. Please check that version out for a better view, since the resized Photobucket image shrinks the file too much for my liking. :/

Bonus Art:

Here's a sneak peek of another work-in-progress. I'm posting this because I have no idea when I'll finish it, if at all, and I figured that, by putting it on LJ, I'd feel more obligated to complete it in a timely fashion. XD

Fancy a preview? )

Cheers!

ETA: The image is now high resolution, and I didn't even do anything. Photobucket is weird.

ETA 2: Because [info]madderbrad insisted..

The DH covers have me excited.

The OotP movie stills have me excited.

The fact that alchemy is on the UK children's cover has me really excited. After all, which ship in fandom has been most prolific with intelligent, fascinating, enlightening, and, best of all, evidence-filled essays on literary alchemy?

To be honest, I never cared for alchemy prior to Deathly Hallows. I admired it, but I generally prefer canon, character development, psychological analyses, and the principles that govern healthy relationships, as opposed to the seven-stage alchemical journey. But after reading a few Harmonian essays on the subject, supported by the glaring incongruity that is HBP, I do see the benefits of the alchemical viewpoint, especially in terms of understanding the plot and the necessity of craptastic!HBP.

I still strongly disagree with how the characters were portrayed in HBP from a development standpoint; almost none of the characters' behavior in HBP makes sense with respect to the first five books. I will concede, however, that HBP makes perfect sense from the alchemical perspective. Despite the author's claims to the contrary, plot simply takes precedence over character.

So kudos to the Harmonian alchemy theorists, particularly those who came out with their analyses years ago, even before HBP. I have a sneaking suspicion that their work will be validated when July rolls around.

Ah, H.M.S. Harmony, how I still adore this ship and its crew and its ability to weather storms. :D

Thus, I was inspired to sketch...

Harry Potter, the Clueless Wonder )

As with my previous sketch, a larger version of the image is available on Harmony Forever. I apologize for the roughness, as my tablet remains quite dead. :(

So please don't ask me about coloring the sketch. There's already a line of rough drawings clamoring for my attention...

1.

Dear flist and fellow Harmonians,

I'll briefly update about RL this weekend, if anyone's interested in finding out what's happened to me over the last few months.

But for now? *giant hugs*

2.

Dear Fandom,

I'm still sailing Harmony. I still believe in what's right over what's Weasley Sue nonsensical easy. I see HBP and the Interview of Dumb as a massive red herring combo.

I still believe it will be H/Hr in the end, and nothing anyone says or does can convince me otherwise. :)

3.

I've always had trouble drawing Hermione. Not Harry, not Ron, not anyone else. Just Hermione. I've tried my best to pin her down, but she never turns out the way I see her in my mind's eye. In my older drawings, there's always something a little bit off, something a little bit skewed, something not quite right that keeps me from capturing the perfect Hermione.

So now that you have a vague idea of how difficult it's been for me, I can safely say:

This is my Hermione.

You've never been more fanciable... )

4.

My tablet died on me a few months ago, which is why I finally resorted to the old pencil/paper/scanner method. That's also why this sketch is so rough, and why there probably won't be a clean, colored version for a long while.

Perhaps I'll be able to get a tablet PC next year, but until then, sorry. As cruddy as the quality is, this is the best I can give. Hope you like it anyway.

After a year-long artistic dry spell, I’m suddenly on a roll with these sketches. This one features Hermione, Harry, and Ron as I envision them in book 7. Enjoy. :)

Don’t mess with the one true trio. )

ETA: Stupid Photobucket resized my drawing, so I had to reupload the full version from HF (thanks for the help, Vance!).

ETA2: Apparently LJ just doesn't like large files. This is the best I've got. If you want a higher resolution image, visit the fanart section at http://www.harmonyforever.com. :)

ETA3: The Wanted sign on the wall behind Ron was inspired by [info]brown65's essay on the Imposter Theory. It's a fascinating read. Just FYI.

LJ land, how I missed thee!

Well... I'm still alive, obviously, albeit swamped with responsibilities. As far as HP fandom goes, I've gotten to the point where I'm completely over HBP and the Interview of Terror. Heck, when I spotted the new H/Hr movie pics, my first reaction wasn't the knee-jerk desire to hurl rocks at JKR. Nope. I just laughed so hard I almost killed both my lungs. Really, the movieverse just blows OBHWF to kingdom come. I'm having a grand time watching Harmonians squeeing all over HF and LJ, while the opposition panics, starts petitions, tells us to STFU, and reveals all sorts of insecurities that supposedly don't exist. Fandom cracks me up like no other.

Karma's a bi-yotch, isn't it? ;)

To my beloved shipmates: YOU GUYS ROCK. Why? Because even in the face of adversity, you're consistently the sanest, smartest, funniest group of human beings ever assembled on the internet.

Anyway, this fanart is relatively old, based on Underworld, my Prince of Tennis fic currently on hiatus, up on ff.net.

Fuji Syusuke can slice and dice with the best of 'em... )

I'm looking forward to winter break because I want to color my black and white sketches, including the H/Hr ones. I really hate to leave stuff hanging, and I've got way too many projects unfinished as it is. I need to finish something, goshdarnit!

I know I said my previous post was probably going to be my last in a very long time, but this cannot wait. If I don't post this now, I'll never get the chance to do it.

Because Sky High is an astoundingly good movie. )

So after I saw this movie all those weeks ago, I rushed home and sketched Warren Peace, but I didn't post the image online. Tonight, I got the chance to watch Sky High again, and I was forcibly reminded of how much I truly loved it.

Anyway, here's the pic that I should have put up a long time ago, and like most of my sketches, it will someday have a colored version.

Eep... I haven't been around LJ in quite a long time. Here's my feeble attempt to make up for my absence with a bit of fanart. I hope that's enough. :P

This is one of the best, Harmony-affirming relationships in all of literature: Lyra and Will from Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series. If you haven't read these books and you have an unsatisfied craving for Harmony, I highly recommend picking up the trilogy.

Harmony done right. )

Anyway, this is going to be my last update in a very long while. School starts on Monday, and I am already swamped. My responsibilities for various organizations have piled high, and I've got to study for LSATs on top of regular coursework. Hey, at least it's my senior year. :)

I'm moving into my apartment this weekend. Wish me luck. *insert sounds of profuse weeping here*

Before the chaos of HBP, I read a manga called For You in Full Blossom, nicknamed Hanakimi from its Japanese title, and I enjoyed it so much that I was inspired to do fanart. It's been a while since I've drawn anything anime-style, but it was loads of fun. This is a rather minimalist pic, but I'll color it in later.

Here's the sketch. )

My final thoughts about HP and shipping, also posted at HF.

ETA: I didn't realize people would get into an uproar over something as simple as my renouncing JKR. It's fascinating how one opinion out of thousands could generate this much silliness. I've explained my views repeatedly, and I have no further interest or patience in clarifying my position.

I've moved on, thanks. I recommend you do the same.

This sums up my reaction to Rowling's most atrocious crime in HBP.

Hermione Granger is my absolute favorite character. Please stop mangling her. )

ETA: I'm definitely sending this to JKR, both by e-mail and by snail mail through her publishers, in the hopes that one of them might reach her. I'm adding the following note, succinctly expressing our views:

To J.K. Rowling,

With the hopes and dreams of a ship that has fiercely defended and consistently uncovered depth in your writing...

Please bring the Hermione Granger we love back.

Sincerely,
The Crew of the H.M.S. Harmony

If you commented here, I'll add your name to a list of shippers right under "The Crew of the H.M.S. Harmony", unless you specify that you don't want to be added. I plan to send this out either on Friday or Saturday, so please let me know what you think.

ETA2: If you're going to reply, specifically to defend JKR and HBP!Hermione, please sign in or leave your name and contact info. I will respect you and address your points as long as you take full responsibility for your actions.

If you're a troll, kindly spend your time elsewhere. If common LJ courtesy is too difficult a concept for you to grasp, your post shall be removed.

Woah.

HP fandom is bloody insane. I left for a few days only to return to mass spoiler hysteria and wrecked nerves on all sides. People were right to take an official break from HP-related stuff, and I guess I'm lucky my RL leave coincided with this mess.

With less than 24 hours left, I still stand by what I've always believed will happen in this series, as I made my predictions based on canon, and those predictions apply no matter what the rumor mill spits out. I still trust that JKR, as a reasonably experienced author and a fan of mysteries, will not cheat her readers with One Big Horrendous Waste of Fiction. There's just no build-up for OBHWF, especially in comparison to Harmony.

However, if JKR does choose the VOMIT-inducing route, then all my respect for her writing ability will go down the drain. Of course I would criticize her choices harshly, but despite everything, I'd wish her luck in future endeavors. I just won't read them. :/

As far as spoilers go, I've stayed away from them for the most part, since I don't trust the lies stories people spread to get attention online. I'm a bit jealous of those lucky readers who got their hands on HBP early, but at the same time, I'm glad I didn't get HBP early. I'm going for the Borders midnight party experience, and in the face of the OBHWF masses, I'll be wearing my "H.M.S. Harmony" t-shirt. Yay for ship pride!

Because I went and got myself sucked into another fandom: Hanakimi. )

Inspired as I am, I probably will do some Hanakimi sketches later on, along with more Potter art.

Rest assured that H/Hr is still my OTP, and after HBP, I'm certain I'll have plenty of canon to illustrate. ;)

Everything will change.
